Location: At the end of Old Mission Point (a peninsula jutting into Grand Traverse Bay), north of Traverse City, MI
Visit: Museum inside is open to the public;
  • 10-5 daily April-October
  • Weekends only November-December

About this light: This 36 foot tower sits on the 45th parallel of latitude

Location: Mouth of Thunder Bay River, Alpena, MI
Visit: Not open to the public, but you can walk the pier for a close look!

White River Lighthouse



Established: 1875
Status: Inactive, museum
Location: Mouth of White Lake, just west of Whitehall, MI
Visit:Open to the public
  • Open Tues-Sun 10am to 5pm Late May through October 31st
  • Open only by appointment Nov 1st through May 22nd
Access:  Car
About this light: The light was de-activated in 1960, but the museum was not opened until late in the summer of 1970.

Sturgeon Point Lighthouse

Established: 1870
Status: Active, run by the Alcona Historical Society
Location: Harrisville, Michigan on Lake Huron
Visit: Open to public, including the tower
  •  Open 7 days a week mid-June through Labor Day
  •  Open weekends Memorial Day through September 11am-4pm
  •  Tower open Fri-Sat 11am-3:30pm
